Although I’ve entitled this article “Tips for Guests Staying at our Spanish Yoga Retreat”, the tips in question might prove equally useful to anyone thinking about visiting sunny Spain.
When I came to live in this delightful corner of southern Europe several years ago, I learned (mainly from sad experience) that there are a number of things that you basically only do once. Among them is attempting to eat a juicy olive straight from the tree. Be warned, they taste absolutely nothing like the olives you buy in the supermarket...Apart from say, battery acid, unprocessed olives are just about the bitterest tasting things you could ever imagine...Yuk!
While we’re on the subject of taste, Elegido “wine” should be avoided like the proverbial plague. I’ve been told that this cheap (and not at all cheerful) brand of wine is used by the Spanish solely for cooking.... Personally, I wouldn’t even use it to CLEAN the cooker......or maybe I would???
Guests of our beautiful Marbella yoga retreat might wish to be aware of the following... When you see a truck with “Bimbo” emblazoned across the side, it’s not actually carrying a cargo of glamorous but synaptically challenged women.... In this case, Bimbo is the name of a ubiquitous brand of Spanish bread or “pan de molde” which although not to everyone’s taste, isn’t in fact, mouldy...
Finally, when I first moved over here my Spanish wasn’t that great. Although I get by quite well now, back then I was convinced that the locals were obsessed with dogs. I’ll explain. The Spanish word for dog is “Perro”, and it seemed that almost every conversation I heard, people were talking about their dogs. It wasn’t until a friend told me that “pero” (Note the single R) is Spanish for “but”, that I realised my linguistic faux pas!
I will no doubt be offering more “useful” tips in future articles...In the meantime, the best tip I can give you is to check out the great value yoga holidays in Spain at Lotus Blooming yoga retreat in Marbella.
