Panchakarma - What is it?

Panchakarma - What is it?
Panchakarma is the ultimate therapy for the mind and body, a deep detoxifying, healing experience, strengthening the immune system, restoring balance and well-being to body and mind. Developed thousands of years ago in India, it is recommended on a seasonal basis, as well as when an individual feels out of balance or is experiencing illness.
Panchakarma - Detoxifing the Body and Mind
In order to have good health and stay fit depends upon our capability to fully metabolize all aspects of life, assimilating that which nourishes and eliminating the rest. When we are unable to completely digest our food, are experiences and emotions, toxins accumulate in our body creating imbalance and ultimately the main reason for sickness. Panchakarma is a wonderful cleansing process that releases stored toxins and restores the body’s innate healing ability.
Panchakarma - For health and well being
When our digestive energies, known as agni (fire) are in balance, the three doshas vata, pitta and kapha are in equilibrium and we create healthy tissues, eliminating waste products and have physical strength, clarity of mind and a strong immunity. If our agni is weakened, digestion is incomplete and creates toxins that get stored in the body. This toxic waste build up is known as ama.
When ama accumulates in the body, it blocks the flow of energy, information, and nourishment throughout the body and mind. Ayurveda considers this build-up of toxins to be the underlying cause of all sickness and disease. An example of this is the accumulation of saturated fat and cholesterol that is beyond the body’s capacity to metabolize. Over time, this leads to the blockage of the blood vessels and arteries and, ultimately, to heart attacks.
Panchakarma - Restoring our natural balance
Your emotional agni is responsible for processing your experiences and feelings, if it is strong you are able to extract nourishment and eliminate the toxic waste. If your agni is not strong it produces just as much toxic waste as undigested food, pent-up anger, long-held sadness and lingering guilt are more debilitating for most people than problems with physical digestion. If you want optimal health, it is crucial to maintain a strong digestive fire and eliminate toxins from the body. Panchakarma is a time-proven natural therapy that detoxifies and restores the body's inner balance and vitality.
Panchakarma - The process
During the first few days the toxins are loosened up with a massage called Abhyangam a warm herbal oil massage. This therapy is used to heat the body and open the body’s circulation channels, it also relaxes the body, releasing tension and allowing toxins to flow more easily from the tissues for elimination.

This is followed by a deep cleansing combination of 1, Ela-khizi a highly effective massage treatment which shatters any blockages in the blood and lymphatic circulation, cleanses channels, increases circulation, and eliminates wastes and toxins through perspiration. It is also a traditional herbal massage treatment for stiffness, body pain, back pain, arthritis and sports injuries etc. 2, Nasayam a facial massage that gently cleanses the upper respiratory tract and sinuses. This process uses pure herbal oils to improve the flow of life energy and help you breathe more freely. It is also a wonderfully effective treatment for sufferers of migraine or sinusitis. 3, Virechana a herbal powder to clean and dislodge any toxic residue in your intestines

And finally Shirodhara the head, shoulders and whole body is massaged, this is followed by the pouring of medicated oil on the forehead in a rhythmic pattern, which loosen’s up the toxins in the mind. It is a marvelous treatment for balancing and releasing stored emotions, relieves anxiety, stress and mental exhaustion. It is also a wonderful treatment for headaches, excessive thinking and sleeping disorders like insomnia etc. After a Shirodhara treatment, most people notice a marked reduction in stress and anxiety; with many reporting a calming of emotions, improved sleep, deep relaxation and a temporary blissful state.

Panchakarma - Recommendation’s
While participating in Panchkarma, it is important to follow a light vegetarian diet of fruit juices, vegetable soups and freshly prepared salads, helping with the elimination process. We also strongly recommend a complete rest, especially from mobiles, computers, television and any thing that disturbs your peace of mind. We advise to reframe from alcohol, cigarettes, coffee and black tea. The daily practice of yoga is also very beneficial to help with the elimination of toxic waste from the mind and body. It also give’s you energy, a peaceful mind, a strong and flexible body.

Ayurveda Explained…

In today’s article we explain the basic principles that make up the ancient Indian practice of Ayurveda.
Ayurveda has been practiced on the sub-continent for thousands of years. The term Ayurveda comes from, “ayus” which is the Sanskrit word for life and “veda” which translates as knowledge. Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine comprising of massage using traditional spices, herbs and oils. Ayurvedic medicine incorporates nutrition and detoxification and is focused on achieving optimum health.
Typically, an Ayurveda therapist will begin a consultation with a thorough evaluation of a patient’s physical, mental and emotional health. According to Ayurvedic principles, every person has a unique blend of Pitta, Kapha and Vata which are known as the three “doshas”. Most people will have a dominant dosha that is invariably combined with one or more of the other two.
Ayurvedic medicine teaches that the underlying forces of our individual constitutions influence every aspect of who we are; aspects such as, what food we like, how we deal with stress, how much sleep we require and even our personal predispositions to various illnesses.
Pitta is signified by fire, focus and determination. People who have dominant Pitta qualities tend to be brave, ambitious and passionate in all they do, although Pitta types can often become anxious and angry, particularly when exposed to stressful situations.
Kapha is signified by strength and stamina. People who have dominant Kapha qualities tend to be heavier built, slower moving and more relaxed than the other types.
Vata is signified by qualities of airiness, dryness cold and motion. Vata types are creative and enthusiastic and can easily move from one new idea to another. However, the Vata type’s natural impulsiveness means they have to guard against over-exerting themselves.
Once an Ayurvedic therapist has determined which type or combination of types his patient is, he will prescribe specific lifestyle and dietary recommendations to help balance the patient’s doshas. These recommendations could include a daily detox program, yoga, a course of herbal medicines, dietary advice or an appropriate Ayurvedic massage.
Currently, Lotus Blooming Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat in Marbella offers a range of six authentic Ayurvedic massages which are carried out by our highly-trained therapists from Kerala, India.

Authentic Ayurvedic Massage, Available in Marbella, Spain

In 2009 Lotus Blooming Yoga Retreat introduced a range of authentic Ayurvedic treatments for guests staying at our yoga retreat and also for members of the public who are increasingly looking for alternative and effective massage therapies in this region of Spain. It has since become one of our most successful ventures, with our guests and visitors finding our therapies effective for treating a wide range of common maladies from insomnia, migraine, backache, detoxification, anxiety, stress and weight loss.

Today we highlight Abhyangam message which is a highly effective and rejuvenating massage used to treat general aches and pains, rheumatic conditions and stiff joints. The paragraph below is taken from our Ayurvedic Menu which can be found on Lotus Blooming's main website (Click Here).

Abhyangam:
A rhythmical rejuvenation massage with Ayurvedic herbal oils removes stagnant energy and harnesses the flow of ”Prana” or Life Force in your body, ensuring deep relaxation. Ayurvedic massage gives lasting relief from chronic aches and pains associated with conditions such as: backache, stiff joints, neck pain and rheumatic pains. Special types of oils are selected according to the condition of the body. Head and shoulders are massaged followed by a full body massage, blended with Marma and Chakra stimulation. This massage improves blood and lymphatic circulation, relieves fatigue, promotes vigor and vitality.

All our Ayurvedic treatments are administered using only 100% authentic spices, oils and herbs which we import directly from India. Our highly-qualified therapist's are also from India; more pertinently, they come from the state of Kerala, the home of Ayurvedic medicine and has a wealth of experience obtained whilst working in some of India’s finest Ayurvedic hospitals.
