Yoga & Discipline

Our busy lifestyles can often leave us feeling stressed and under pressure. Yet by living such an unhealthy lifestyle we often place ourselves at risk.
From heart disease to a weakened immune system and depression, almost all common illnesses can be blamed on stress. However, this can be combated and kept in check with the routine practice of Yoga.
Yoga is about creating a balance between mind and body. Perhaps the most important part of yoga is discipline. To get the most benefit from yoga it is essential to be well disciplined in all aspects of your life. Aspects such as how you eat your meals, how you practice yoga, in fact, all facets of your daily routine should be undertaken with a focused mind. This disciplined practice eventually becomes a way of life.
The yoga exercises must be practiced regularly if you wish to get the maximum benefit from this ancient practice. In order to bend, to align yourself and to maintain your posture, yoga requires mental and physical discipline. If you can establish a disciplined daily routine, you should be able to master yoga with a fair amount of ease.
Correct breathing is a vital part of yoga. When we breathe we take in oxygen and in turn, release carbon dioxide which is recycled and breathed in again. This gives us a link with the world around us. If we practice the right way of breathing we gain more energy from our surroundings.
Although discipline is a key aspect of yoga, we don’t want to give the impression that Lotus Blooming is some kind of “boot camp”. On the contrary, guests staying at our Marbella yoga retreat are on holiday and we are here to make sure that relaxation is the order of the day.

Yoga and Diet.......

Should a correct yoga diet be strictly vegetarian? This is a question we hear many times from guests staying at our Spanish yoga retreat in Marbella. The answers is surprisingly, no. Although those practicing yoga and ayurveda are encouraged to eat mainly vegetarian food, some meat or fish is allowed.
Generally, yoga discourages the consumption of large amounts of meat, especially if it's cooked using lots of spices and contains high amounts of fats and salt.
A good yoga diet should be well balanced and include plenty of raw ingredients such as fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds. As a rule, the simpler the dish, the better, and heavily processed food should be avoided. And unlike the many dieting fads that come and go, a yoga inspired diet will not only help with weight loss, it will also ensure that the weight loss is maintained.
The meals we serve at our Marbella yoga retreat are vegetarian, but guests can choose to eat locally caught fish if they prefer. Our meals are lovingly prepared and we only use the freshest of ingredients.
When we are asked diet related questions, we remind our guests that good yoga practice instills physical and mental discipline allowing adherents to find a good balance between the physical, mental and spiritual spheres of their lives. With this comes a natural moderation in all things, including eating. That said, we also remind them that they're on holiday and a little bit of excess is fine by us.The combination of correct yoga practice and a diet that follows the general principles of a good yoga diet will invariably help yoga practitioners to eat healthily.

Ela-Kizhi – An Effective Ayurvedic Treatment for Back Pain

Ela-kizhi is one of the classic Ayurveda treatments we specialize in at Lotus Blooming Yoga Retreat in Marbella. The 100% authentic treatments which use medicated herbs, spices and oils that we import directly from Kerala in southern India are effective in treating a wide range of debilitating medical conditions.
Since introducing Ayurveda a little over 4 years ago, our highly-qualified Kerala born Ayurvedic therapist has been busy skillfully administering treatments to both guests of our Marbella yoga retreat and members of the public who are increasingly recognizing the benefits of this ancient Indian medicine.
This authentic massage involves the use of a linen or muslin bag which is called a “Kizhi”. The bag is filled with a special mixture of ingredients including freshly picked herbal leaves, limes, garlic and various other health-giving preparations. Before the treatment commences the Kizhi is warmed using medicated oils, then the bag is applied to the patient using a light massage technique with swift rhythmical movements.
This most traditional massage has proved highly-effective in treating a range of conditions including general body pain, back pain, sports injuries and arthritis. In the hands of our experienced therapist, Ela-Kizhi removes blockages in the blood and lymphatic circulation, increases general circulation and through the perspiration induced during the treatment, eliminates harmful toxins stored in the body.

The perfect yoga teachers............

When we started Lotus Blooming Yoga Retreat in Marbella, we realized that one of the most important aspects of running a successful yoga retreat was choosing the right yoga teacher’s. It was our intention then to employ teacher’s who not only had the right experience, but could also teach classes of students with varying levels of ability. After several months of searching and interviewing, we found the perfect combination of two yoga teachers, Petra and Ajan.

Petra is from Sweden and takes the morning class, she has studied with teachers of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Hatha Yoga. She is also a certified Raja Yoga Teacher (Yoga Alliance) the Science of the Mind. Bringing yoga to our everyday life not only on the mat, but also with our heart and soul in everyday life. She is a gentle soul and continues to gain knowledge from various forms of yoga and meditation in order to further help her students recognize their own strengths and inner being.

Ajan who takes our evening class is a warm, humorous and very dedicated yoga teacher, He comes from Kerala in Southern India where yoga and Ayurveda is practice with dedication. His experience is grounded in Sivananda Yoga but he is also able to teach almost any form of yoga including Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Restorative yoga. He is also a highly qualified Ayurveda therapist which goes hand in hand with yoga. He has a natural intuitive healing knowledge and is a wonderful teacher for everybody but especially for those with physical problems. He has extensive knowledge of the body and mind and has helped many people restore their health, gain more flexibility, strength and beauty.
With our winning combination of unsurpassed teaching skills, coupled with an easy going manner which from day one puts our guests at ease, we believe we have the best yoga teacher’s in Spain. Their popularity is evident, with many guests telling us that their yoga practice has improved considerably since their stay at Lotus Blooming.
